"George and William were convicted of crimes. Only George’s crime has been found and he was sent to Tasmania, where he met his wife Ann Delany (also a convict). They remained in Tasmania and their family can be easily tracked from the convicts. The address for George at the time of conviction was Hillview, Clifton - Bristol, Gloucester. Also mentioned is Blackfriars Rd which is in both Bristol and Gloucester. John came to New Zealand from Australia ( maybe Melbourne), both during the gold rushes of both countries. John’s death records show he came to New Zealand 1861, unfortunately Port Chalmers shipping arrival records were burnt in a fire. John Clark is like looking for a needle in a haystack. John married at some stage a lady called Louisa, who arrived New Zealand 1864 from Melbourne. She died in 1868 of dropsy in Dunedin." Janice Clark 2009 |
The first Cemetery record is John Clarke, the second his first wife Louisa, third Hannah Hansen and his grand daughter Christina Marion.
Mrs C Hansen is Kjearsti. John Clark is the first ascendant of the Andreassend Family to arrive in New Zealand around 1861. The Clark Family lived in Walker Street (Carroll St) in those times an undesirable part of town close to the wharves. Records show that they lived in the street and possibly the same house from at least 1868, after Johns death the house may have been passed onto Kjaersti (Christina) as her second husband Hans Hansen (died 1904) residence was also Walker St. |
